How to open an Inter bank account as a foreigner in Brazil

Complete guide to opening an Inter digital bank account in Brazil as a foreigner. Free account, no branches, Pix ready.

Inter is Nubank's biggest competitor

Banco Inter is Brazil's second largest digital bank. Zero fees, fully digital, and some features that Nubank does not have: a built-in shopping marketplace, cashback on purchases, and a free international debit card.

For foreigners, Inter is often the backup plan when Nubank rejects your application. But many people prefer it as their primary bank because of the cashback and marketplace features.

How to sign up

Download the Inter app, select that you want to open an account, and enter your CPF. You will need your passport, a Brazilian phone number, and a selfie.

The process is almost identical to Nubank. Enter your details, verify your identity, wait for approval. Most accounts are active within 48 hours.

One difference: Inter sometimes asks for proof of address during signup. A utility bill, rental contract, or even a recent bank statement showing a Brazilian address can work.

What you get

A full checking account with no monthly fees. A debit card (physical and virtual). Pix transfers. International transfers. Investment options. A marketplace where you can buy from partner stores with cashback.

The Inter Super App tries to be your everything app for finances. Whether that appeals to you or feels like too much depends on your preferences.

Skip the guesswork
