How to register on Gov.br as a foreigner with a CPF

Access Brazilian government services online. How foreigners can create a Gov.br account using their CPF.

What is Gov.br?

Gov.br is Brazil's unified digital government platform. It is like having a single login for every government service: tax filings, social security, vaccination records, digital ID, driver's license services, and hundreds more.

As a foreigner with a CPF, you can create a Gov.br account and access many of these services. This is especially useful if you plan to stay in Brazil long-term.

How to create your account

Go to gov.br or download the Gov.br app. Click 'Criar conta' (create account). Enter your CPF. You will verify your identity through facial recognition using your phone camera.

The tricky part for foreigners: the facial recognition compares your face against government databases. If your CPF was recently created, the system might not have your photo yet. In that case, you can verify through your bank (Nubank, Inter, etc.) if you already have one linked to your CPF.

Once verified, you get a 'selo de confiabilidade' (trust seal) that determines which services you can access. Higher levels unlock more services.

What you can do with it

Check your CPF status and regularity. Access your digital vaccination card. File your annual tax declaration (DIRPF) if required. Check social security contributions. Request documents and certificates.

For most foreigners, the main use is checking CPF status and the annual declaration. But if you work in Brazil or have Brazilian income, Gov.br becomes essential for tax compliance.
