Best places to get a CPF in Recife

Recife has several Correios branches that process CPF applications:

Correios Boa Viagem (Avenida Conselheiro Aguiar), in the main beach neighbourhood where most foreigners live. Convenient, moderate traffic, staff familiar with foreign applicants.

Correios Espinheiro (Rua do Espinheiro), in a central residential area. Quieter than Boa Viagem, well-organised.

Correios Recife Antigo (near Marco Zero), in the historic port district, close to Porto Digital. Good option if you are working in the tech hub.

Recife has direct flights from Lisbon (TAP), which means a steady flow of Portuguese and European passport holders. Office staff in Boa Viagem are reasonably experienced with EU documents.

Where foreigners live in Recife

Boa Viagem is where most foreigners start. The 8km beachfront has high-rise apartments, restaurants, and good infrastructure. One-bedrooms run R$1,200-2,000/month, roughly half of what you would pay in Sao Paulo for equivalent quality.

Espinheiro and Aflitos are quieter, more residential alternatives. Popular with people working at Porto Digital who want to avoid the beach traffic.

Olinda, the historic colonial town adjacent to Recife, attracts artists and longer-term expats. Beautiful but less convenient for daily logistics. Its own Carnival is legendary and more intimate than Salvador's.

For proof of address, Boa Viagem has a well-developed rental market with many furnished apartments available on monthly contracts. Landlords are used to foreigner tenants.

Recife-specific tips

Porto Digital is one of Latin America's largest tech hubs. If you are a remote worker or in tech, having a CPF lets you access the co-working spaces, register for local events, and join the community properly.

Recife's food is outstanding. Tapioca carts on the Boa Viagem beachfront, bolo de rolo (rolled cake), cartola (fried banana with cheese), and fresh seafood. With a CPF and iFood, the entire food scene opens up.

Day trips to Porto de Galinhas (natural pools, 60km south) and Fernando de Noronha (one of Brazil's best archipelagos, 1-hour flight) are common. A CPF lets you book domestic flights at local prices on Azul and book pousadas directly via Pix.
