Best places to get a CPF in Natal

Natal has Correios branches that process CPF applications:

Correios Ponta Negra (near the main beach area), the most convenient for foreigners. Ponta Negra is where the majority of tourists and expats live. Staff see European passports regularly thanks to direct Lisbon flights.

Correios Tirol (Avenida Prudente de Morais area), in an upscale central neighbourhood. Well-organised, moderate waits.

Correios Cidade Alta (near the historic centre), the downtown branch. Busier but always operational.

Natal has a significant European expat community, particularly Portuguese, Italian, and Scandinavian residents who own property here. The Correios staff in Ponta Negra are more experienced with foreign passports than most northeastern cities.

Where foreigners live in Natal

Ponta Negra is the default. The famous Morro do Careca dune marks the southern end of the beach. Furnished apartments run R$1,000-1,800/month. The neighbourhood has restaurants, shops, and a lively nightlife scene.

Tirol is the upscale residential alternative. Quieter, more spacious, good for families. Close to the Midway Mall and medical facilities.

Many Europeans own condos and houses along the Via Costeira or in the Pirangi area south of the city. If you are buying property, a CPF is legally required for the transaction.

For proof of address, Ponta Negra has many furnished apartments on monthly contracts. Landlords and rental agencies are very used to foreign tenants.

Natal-specific tips

The buggy tours along the dunes and coastline (Genipabu, Maracajau, Pipa) are a signature Natal experience. Buggy drivers and tour operators run on Pix. With a CPF and a Pix key, booking and paying is instant.

Praia da Pipa (90 minutes south) is one of Brazil's most famous beach villages. Day trips or multi-day stays are easy from Natal. Most pousadas in Pipa prefer Pix payments.

Natal has the cheapest direct flights from Europe (TAP from Lisbon, seasonal charters from Scandinavia). With a CPF, you can buy domestic connecting flights on Azul at local prices, opening up the rest of the northeast from your Natal base.
