Best places to get a CPF in Maceio

Maceio has Correios branches that handle CPF applications:

Correios Pajucara (near the Pajucara beachfront), the most convenient for foreigners in the main tourist area. Small branch, usually quick.

Correios Ponta Verde (Avenida Alvaro Otacilio area), in the upscale beach neighbourhood. Well-organised, short waits.

Correios Jatiuca (further north along the coast), quieter, good if you are staying in the northern beach areas.

Maceio is compact. You are rarely more than 20 minutes from any Correios branch by Uber. The entire beachfront strip from Pajucara to Jatiuca is walkable.

Where foreigners live in Maceio

Ponta Verde is the main neighbourhood for foreigners. Upscale beachfront, good restaurants, walkable. One-bedrooms run R$1,000-1,800/month, exceptional value for a beachfront city.

Pajucara is slightly more budget-friendly and has the famous jangada (raft) boats that take you to natural pools at low tide.

Jatiuca is quieter and more residential. Good for longer stays.

Maceio's beaches have some of the clearest water on Brazil's coast. The famous Caribbean comparison is not exaggerated. With a rental contract in any of these neighbourhoods, proof of address is straightforward.

Maceio-specific tips

The natural pools of Maragogi (2 hours north) and Praia do Frances (30 minutes south) are must-visits. Boat trips to the natural pools off Pajucara beach leave daily. All of these are best paid via Pix. Jangada operators and tour guides prefer it over cash.

Maceio has excellent seafood. Sururu (a local clam) is the signature ingredient, served in broth, with rice, or in pasteis. iFood works well here and delivery is fast.

The cost of living in Maceio is among the lowest of any coastal capital in Brazil. With a CPF, a bank account, and Pix, you can live well on a modest budget. Rent, food, and transport are all significantly cheaper than the south.
