There is a growing Colombian community in Brazil, particularly in Sao Paulo and border cities. Whether you are in Brazil for work, study, or exploring the country, a CPF is essential for daily life.

Colombian passport holders do not need a visa for stays under 90 days. As a member of several South American cooperation agreements, some additional pathways may be available for longer stays.

Colombia-specific considerations

Name formatting. Colombian passports typically include two surnames (paternal and maternal). Enter both surnames exactly as they appear on your passport. The CPF system can handle compound surnames.

Mother's name. Enter your mother's full legal name including both her surnames. Colombian naming conventions mean she likely has her maiden paternal and maternal surnames, or may have added her husband's surname. Use whatever appears on her official documents.

Language advantage. Spanish and Portuguese are similar enough that many Colombians can navigate the CPF office without major language barriers. The forms and basic interaction are manageable if you speak Spanish.

After your CPF
