Best places to get a CPF in Belo Horizonte

Belo Horizonte has several Correios branches that process CPF applications. The most reliable for foreigners:

Correios Savassi (Rua Pernambuco), in the heart of BH's most foreigner-friendly neighbourhood. Staff see international passports regularly. Short waits on weekday mornings.

Correios Funcionarios (Avenida Getulio Vargas), large branch, well-organised, near the Assembleia metro station. Good option if you are staying in the south zone.

Correios Centro (Avenida Afonso Pena), the main downtown branch. Busier than Savassi but always open and fully staffed. Walking distance from Praca Sete.

The Receita Federal office on Rua Sergipe in Funcionarios also processes CPFs for free but wait times are longer. For most foreigners, Correios is faster.

Where foreigners live in BH

Savassi is the default expat neighbourhood. Walkable, full of restaurants and bars, good co-working spaces, and close to the Correios office. One-bedroom apartments run R$1,500-2,500/month.

Lourdes and Funcionarios are quieter, slightly more upscale alternatives. Still walkable to everything. Serra is popular with students and younger foreigners for its nightlife and lower rents.

BH-specific tips

BH is famous for its mineiro cuisine. Pao de queijo, feijao tropeiro, and a strong craft beer scene. With a CPF you unlock iFood (essential here, delivery is fast and cheap), Pix at the Mercado Central, and local gym chains.

The city has excellent public transport. The MOVE bus system and metro connect most areas. With a CPF you can get a Bhbus card for cheaper fares instead of paying cash on every ride.

BH is also the base for visiting Ouro Preto, Inhotim (a renowned contemporary art museum), and the caves of Minas Gerais. A CPF and a local phone plan make these trips much easier to organise.
