Best places to get a CPF in Belem

Belem has Correios branches that process CPF applications:

Correios Nazare (near the Basilica de Nazare), in a central, well-connected neighbourhood. Clean, organised, and accessible by bus from most parts of the city.

Correios Umarizal (Avenida Generalissimo Deodoro area), in a residential neighbourhood popular with middle-class families. Quieter than Centro.

Correios Comercio (near the port and Ver-o-Peso market), the downtown branch. Busier but atmospheric if you want to combine your CPF visit with a trip to the legendary market.

Belem is hot and humid year-round. Bring water, dress light, and arrive early. Afternoon thunderstorms are daily in the rainy season (January-June).

Where foreigners live in Belem

Umarizal and Nazare are the preferred neighbourhoods for foreigners. Both are central, safe, and walkable. One-bedrooms run R$1,000-1,800/month, among the cheapest of any state capital.

Batista Campos is slightly more upscale, near Praca Batista Campos park. Good for families.

The waterfront Estacao das Docas area is beautiful but more commercial. Most foreigners in Belem are researchers (connected to UFPA or Museu Goeldi), environmental workers, or food tourism enthusiasts staying for weeks or months to explore Amazonian cuisine.

Belem-specific tips

Belem arguably has the most unique food scene in all of Brazil. Acai here is savoury, eaten with fish and tapioca, not the sweet smoothie bowl you know. Tacaca, maniçoba, pato no tucupi (duck in tucupi sauce), and river fish prepared dozens of ways. With a CPF and iFood, you access restaurants that do not even have signs on the door.

The Ver-o-Peso market is one of the largest open-air markets in South America. Pix is king here. Fish vendors, acai sellers, and artisan stalls all prefer Pix. Without it you are carrying cash in a crowded market.

Day trips to Ilha do Marajo (buffalo island, unique ecosystem), Mosqueiro (river beaches), and Algodoal (beach village) are best booked locally via Pix. The ferry to Marajo leaves from the port near the Correios Comercio branch.
