Argentines are one of the largest groups of foreigners in Brazil. Whether you are crossing the border for shopping, spending the summer on the beaches of Santa Catarina, or relocating permanently, a CPF opens up everything Brazil has to offer.
Argentine passport holders do not need a visa. As a MERCOSUR citizen, you also have the right to live and work in Brazil with simplified residency procedures.
Argentina-specific considerations
MERCOSUR advantage. As an Argentine citizen, you can apply for temporary residency in Brazil through MERCOSUR agreements. This simplifies many aspects of life in Brazil, including the CPF process.
DNI as additional ID. Your Argentine DNI (Documento Nacional de Identidad) is accepted as a travel document within MERCOSUR. However, for the CPF application, bring your passport as it is the most universally accepted document.
Name formatting. Argentine passports are straightforward. Enter your name exactly as printed. The mother's full legal name is required as always.
Proof of address. Many Argentines in Brazil are in border cities or beach towns. The proof of address rules are the same regardless of your proximity to the border.
