Best places to get a CPF in Manaus

Manaus has Correios branches that process CPF applications:

Correios Centro (Rua Barroso, near the Teatro Amazonas), the main branch in central Manaus. The most reliable option for foreigners. The iconic opera house is a landmark to navigate by.

Correios Adrianopolis (Avenida Djalma Batista area), in the modern commercial district. Less crowded than Centro, good air conditioning (you will appreciate this).

Manaus is isolated. You can only get here by plane or multi-day boat from Belém. The foreign community is small but diverse: researchers, NGO staff, Zona Franca (Free Trade Zone) workers, and eco-tourism operators. Office staff process fewer foreign applications so have your documents perfectly prepared.

The Zona Franca and work permits

The Manaus Free Trade Zone employs thousands of people in electronics, motorcycle, and beverage manufacturing. If you are relocating for work at Samsung, Honda, Yamaha, Harley-Davidson, or one of the 600+ companies in the industrial district, your employer's HR department will want your CPF immediately.

Get it done in your first week. Every onboarding form, bank account, and tax registration requires it. Do not wait for HR to guide you through it because they will assume you already have one.

If you are a researcher at INPA (National Institute for Amazonian Research) or working with an environmental NGO, the same urgency applies. Your institutional ID alone does not replace a CPF for banking and daily life.

Manaus-specific tips

Manaus has a surprisingly good food delivery scene. iFood and Rappi both operate well here. The local cuisine features river fish (tambaqui, pirarucu, tucunare) that you cannot find anywhere else. With a CPF and iFood, you have access to all of it.

Phone coverage is essential. Vivo has the best coverage for jungle excursions and river trips. TIM and Claro work fine in the city but drop out in remote areas. Get a postpaid Vivo plan with your CPF.

Amazon lodge trips, Meeting of the Waters tours, and jungle expeditions can all be booked and paid via Pix. Many smaller operators give 5-10% discounts for Pix payments.
